API design-first

When implementing the API design-first approach, it is important to not only focus on faster delivery, parallel work streams, reducing costs, but also on the quality of API.

I personally see API design-first as API design-test-first, which includes the test-first approach before the product is built. This ensures that the product has not only a great developer experience but also validates all consumer-driven contracts and increases quality through unit testing. It also helps accelerate the delivery and prevent the probability of defects in a later stage.

I know some developers and integration architects are focused on getting „it“ done, but believe me „it“ will come back to you, if you don’t design and test it properly. Spend a bit more time in the design phase of your APIs and integrations and you will receive awesome results!

Here is how MuleSoft supports the API design-test-first approach with the Anypoint Platform.
